Let my words and my words alone
be all you need to know of me.
Let only the distilled essence
of my purest thoughts spread fragrance
till where it can in this vast world.
The rest of my existence is
an insubstantial wisp of smoke.
Only that which matters will make
its way into your minds and hearts.
A noble ambition to be sure but I still like an occasional, physical hug. (From Mrs N, of course!)
ReplyDeleteIsn't that true, we only take into our existence the stuff we want to and nothing more.
ReplyDeletenicely said but how we all desire to know the soul behind the words.....a happy new year to you :)
ReplyDeleteA noble thought expressed very well in words. :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ankita
I do think that a person's words are definitely a window into who they are & most often express their essence. I enjoyed your thought process here, Madhumaki.
ReplyDeleteI specially like the second stanza, clever use of "till" ~ Happy New Year ~
ReplyDeleteThis is very true of poets, isn't it? We are known by our words.
ReplyDeleteSo so true. Your verse is rather lovely

This are wishful and thoughtful thoughts.. we are all in the land of words. What if words could really change...
ReplyDeleteNice thought...really we live by our deeds..not in years..:-)
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I wish I could make the same prayer but unfortunately I tend to err as much with my words as with my deeds. :)
ReplyDeleteThe words spoken reflect the genuine being behind the persona! Well written Madhu!
ReplyDeleteHank
are words enough...they only give a hint at the one behind them...but then we only show what we think is alluring and not the complete person...so can they really know us then?
ReplyDeleteThe point is that they needn't know the whole of me. I want to share with others only that in me which is pristine and untouched by evil.
DeleteI admire that you're able to achieve this...my poetry tends to share everything, both the good and the bad. Lovely words!
ReplyDeleteYour words are powerful and precise, per usual. I, however see the value and the goodness in the whole of you.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourites of yours, kiddo. I truly love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Words express so deeply the essence of who a person is! Your words show what a beautiful person you are for sure.
ReplyDeleteI think you matter for more than just your words. Lovely poem, tho.
ReplyDeleteYour aim is a high one. Real people have flaws and weaknesses and some of that makes for very good poetry.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
I agree with you. Poetry about flaws and weaknesses does make for very good poetry. It gives us something to relate to.
DeleteMadhumakhi,
ReplyDeleteA very nice and confident piece of poetry:)
Happy New Year,
Eileen
Beautiful thoughts and words - but knowing the essence of a person, who they truly are is often hidden behind the words they speak...
