A house feels
swamped when
a guest refusing
to adjust arrives.

When guests
refusing to adjust arrive,
they often bring
their homes with themselves;
and what you made
your home is what
you grudgingly replace
with what they call home.

Why don't they
make themselves
at home with
your home,
just as you
make yourself
at home
with them?

When for those days
they can make
a home with you
and be happy,
just as you want to
make a home
with them
and be happy.

And when you do
make a home
with each other
you will be happy.

  1. Reminds me of a line from Leo Dicaprio's movie Beach, roughly quoted as: "You travel to leave home, then go about re-creating home in your travel"

  6. You are writing my life! We have had so much company over the years and what a difference good guests can be. I say there are high maintenance and low maintenance guests.
